Alert over parasitic infections in Santa Fe city in Argentina

An upsurge of cases of trichinellosis has been reported in the province of Santa Fe, west of Buenos Aires. The epicentre is in the city of Rufino where an alert was issued after eight people were confirmed to have the parasitic infection – that has now climbed to 23 cases. The infection is generally acquired through consuming undercooked meat (often pork) infected with Trichinella roundworms. As there can be a lag time between infection and symptoms appearing, more cases are expected. Read more
